Does syllable frequency affect production time in a delayed naming task?
نویسنده
چکیده
In a delayed naming task the effect of syllable frequency on the production time of syllables was investigated. Participants first heard either a lowor a high-frequency syllable and were then asked to repeat this syllable as often as they could for a time span of eight seconds. Mean production times per syllable were determined. When the segmental make-up of highand lowfrequency syllables was completely matched, there was no frequency effect on production time. It is concluded that syllable frequency does not play a role on the articulatory-motor level in speech production.

Processing of syllables in production and recognition tasks.
Empirical evidence for a functional role of syllables in visual word processing is abundant, however it remains rather heterogeneous. The present study aims to further specify the role of syllables and the cognitive accessibility of syllabic information in word processing. The first experiment compared performance across naming and lexical decision tasks by manipulating the number of syllables ...

The authors report on a gender priming experiment in German using typewritten language production in a picture naming task. The experiment was conducted with 20 native speakers of German with a wide range of typing skills. In the gender primed condition, gender information was provided by presenting and naming the definite German determiner before the picture naming task. The unprimed condition...

In a well-known study, Balota and Chumbley (1985) used a delayed naming task to assess postperceptual word frequency effects. They observed frequency effects after considerable delays, suggesting that frequency sensitivity characterizes not only the perceptual stage, but also postaccess stages. The present investigation examined delayed naming in a dual-task. Using delays after perception and a...

We describe an analysis of speech errors on a confrontation naming task in a man with progressive speech degeneration of 10-year duration from Pick's disease. C.S. had a progressive non-fluent aphasia together with a motor speech impairment and early assessment indicated some naming impairments. There was also an absence of significant phonological or semantic impairment. In order to examine na...
متن کاملNaming pseudowords in Spanish: effects of syllable frequency.
Three naming experiments were conducted to examine the role of the first and the second syllable during speech production in Spanish. Facilitative effects of syllable frequency with disyllabic words have been reported in Dutch and Spanish (Levelt & Wheeldon, 1994; Perea & Carreiras, 1998). In both cases, the syllable frequency effect was independent of-and additive to-the effect of word frequen...
